The Riecken Foundation creates institutions that ignite a spirit of discovery and civic participation in Central America. The foundation’s mission is to promote democracy and prosperity by advancing access to information in rural communities. Since 2000, the Riecken Foundation has built and sponsored public libraries in dozens of remote communities in Guatemala and Honduras. These libraries are dynamic spaces for discovery, learning and participation; they cultivate new traditions of reading, citizenship and community action.
